A typical single-car driveway (3.5 x 15 m / 12 x 50 ft) at 100 mm deep needs about 5.25 m³ (6.9 cubic yards) or roughly 9.5 tonnes of crushed stone. Base layers should be 100-150 mm.
How do I convert volume of gravel to weight?
Multiply cubic yards by 1.35-1.5 for US tons (or cubic metres by 1.6-1.8 for tonnes). Pea gravel: ~1.65 t/m³ (1.4 tons/yd³). Crushed stone: ~1.8 t/m³ (1.5 tons/yd³). River rock: ~1.6 t/m³ (1.35 tons/yd³).

How deep should a gravel driveway be?
A proper gravel driveway needs 3 layers totaling 300-400 mm (12-16 in): a 150 mm (6 in) base of large crushed stone, 100 mm (4 in) of medium stone, and 50-75 mm (2-3 in) of surface gravel. Each layer should be compacted separately.
What type of gravel is best for driveways?
Use angular crushed stone (not round) — it locks together under traffic. #57 stone (3/4 inch) works well as a base. #411 (quarry process) compacts into a solid surface layer. Avoid pea gravel on slopes as it migrates.
